Emotional Eating is NOT a Coping Skill.

😢😩😡EMOTIONAL EATING 🍽

.

.

This is a touchy but lengthy subject so I’ll keep this post brief.

.

A lot of people are suffering from the effects of Emotional Eating as a way of “coping” with high emotional experiences.

Emotional Eating is NOT an acceptable coping skill, in fact it isn’t even considered a coping skill at all.

It’s a momentary pacifier for soothing your discomfort that often ends in MORE emotions than what you started with, and the main emotion you experience is REGRET.

Then ANGER or Self Shaming.

Then AGGRESSIVE “recovery” methods such as severe carb or calorie restriction in hopes to “reverse” the damage done.

.

.

Can I stop my Emotional Eating behaviors?

YES!!

.

Depending on the severity of symptoms and the cause of the issues, you can correct these habits in a fairly reasonable amount of time.

It is hard to nail down an exact timeframe because each case of Emotional Eating is different, but if you are truly ready to make changes to your behaviors and actively work on implementing new coping skills when your emotions run high then you are off to an accelerated start compared to someone who is still dipping their toes into the pool of behavior change.

.

I have helped many clients over the past 15+ years recognize triggers & correct these behaviors via CBT exercises so that they can experience a better quality of life.

How long they sustain these changes are entirely up to them & their daily choices, but most of my clients experience behavior reversal & retain change as soon as 30 days into intervention!

.

If you are struggling to find and implement acceptable coping skills for handling your emotions and curbing emotional eating, you should consider working with a licensed therapist or a coach who uses CBT exercises to help you work through your issues.

.

The first step toward CHANGE is always ACTION!

Be Well,

Coach Heather
